I'm interested in stories that explore identity, belonging and what it means to be a husband, father and man in today's society. I draw on the contrasting experiences of time spent growing up in the South and life on both coasts. Jobs in advertising and tech provide fodder for characters struggling to define success.
I studied writing at The University of Virginia and The New School. Before landing in the Garden State, I lived and wrote in Charlottesville, Louisville, New York, San Francisco and Paris. I'm now settled with my wife, three kids and two dogs in the beautifully creative town of Maplewood, NJ.
My work-in-progress novel, 'In the Making' (original copyright 2018) tells the story of a father and son both facing into a crisis in the making. When Alec, a marketing executive at a major baby food company, discovers his company's formula is poisoning babies, he is forced to reevaluate a number of his central beliefs. At the same time, Alec's teenage son, Jack is wrestling with what it means to 'be his own man.' The story is ultimately about what fathers and sons can teach each other and what they must learn on their own.

"Hearing his daughter’s high pitched scream, Patrick flashed to Emily as a little girl falling from the monkey bars. Emily claimed he startled her but Patrick knew she was already falling before he started running. Either way, she ended up with a broken arm and buckets of tears. And now, almost five years later, his acrophophic daughter was hurtling down a zipline after being pushed from the top of a red wooden tower."
